True Life: I Live in an Alternate Universe

I just got ambushed.  In the kitchen of my office. I didn't stand a chance.  I was ambushed by a coworker i'll refer to as "Dog Show Lady" or DSL for fun.  I don't know if you've ever had the privilege chance of meeting someone who devotes his or her life to entering dogs in shows, but i have.  I saw the movie, Best in Show, years ago and i absolutely loved it.  And it made me wonder if there were people in real life who are like the characters from this movie.  As it turns out, there sure are.  I thought that older ladies who have 17 cats were the worst.  Well, i think DSLs are on the next level.

I've been in DSL's office before.  I've seen the many framed photos of her show dogs.  I've seen the ribbons they've won.  I've even seen the back of her car lined with bumper stickers that say things like "agility," "obedience,"and "rally."

So today, before i'd even had the chance to have my morning coffee, DSL startled me with her excitement over a dog show coming up this weekend in town.  I feigned interest as she spoke about the thousands of dogs that would be there and how it's a bigger show than the one in Atlanta or the one in Houston.  Then it happened.  I should have seen it coming.  She invited me to go.  Because i have a dog, i suppose she thought i'd be interested in dog shows as well.  Well, lady, Sophie knows how to sit on command and that is about as fancy as it gets in our household.  I tried to think.  But, geez, thinking in the morning without my coffee is more difficult than one would think.  I quickly said that i have alot going on this weekend but that it sounded fun. (Lie.) She said she'd get the flyer of the event to me so i could look into it some more.  Fantastic.

As i sit here on pins and needles waiting for her to return with said flyer, all the while sipping my coffee, i can't help but feel a little thankful for DSL.  She made my day a little more interesting.  It occurs to me that it does, in fact, take all kinds of people.
