the spring is coming

Today has been really rainy and cold. It feels like winter. i went to a yoga class this morning, because let's face it, it's what i do when i don't know what i feel like doing. I was about to start cursing the rain when i was all but drenched on my way into the studio...

about halfway through class, the instructor said "It's the perfect day for yoga. It's rainy...it would only be better if it were thunderstorming outside." yeah right, i thought to myself. She went on to say "It may be rainy and cold today, but it means that spring is coming." I thought about that. Yes, the spring is coming. Lord Jesus am i tired of the rain. But the spring is coming. New life is coming.

It occurs to me that there are two types of rain in the Bible. There's the heavy down pour. (Think Noah and the flood.) Scary rain. Then there's the rain that's sweet and rich with blessings--we pray for this type of rain. We pray for God to rain down his Mercies and his Grace on us. I want so badly to move through this time in my life that feels like a down pour--i cannot wait to get to the other side--the sweeter side--to the season of spring rains.

Sow for yourselves righteousness

reap in mercy

break up your fallow ground

for it is time to seek the Lord

until he comes and rains righteousness on you

Hosea 10:12

In the old testament, Elijah says to Ahab "Go up, eat and drink, for there is the sound of the abundance of rain." (1 Kings 18:41)

The spring rains are coming.
